Race Through Space with this new challenge from UPMC!

Embark on a health and fitness mission to seven planets with UPMC's Race Through Space!

Race Through Space is a seven-month fitness challenge that promotes daily physical activity. Each month, you'll receive an email that takes you to another planet and that provides you with a monthly activity goal and tips, based on a fitness level that you get to pick (beginner, intermediate, or advanced).

The best part? The challenge connects with your activity tracker to automatically log your movement throughout the day so it's quick and simple to take part! (No activity tracker? No problem! You can manually enter your activity on the challenge website, too.) Plus, your participation can earn you a chance to win one of three gift cards for each month of the challenge!

When does Race Through Space take place?

The challenge kicks off on May 1, 2019, but you can register anytime now through Thursday, October 31! The challenge ends on November 30, 2019.

FAQ

How do I connect my activity tracker?

For wearable devices:

  1. Log in to my.pitt.edu and follow this path: My Resources > Human Resources > MyHealth Access > Better Health and Wellness > Resources for Healthier Living > Browse by Resource Type > Trackers > My Activity Tracker
  2. Select your device and enter its account information.
  3. Allow data to be shared. (If you are connecting a Fitbit, you must share both “profile” and “exercise and activity” in order for data to be received.)
  4. Sync your device by opening its app.
  5. View your steps in My Activity Tracker.

Note: You must open your device’s app to sync it and share data with UPMC. Data sharing will not happen automatically. My Activity Tracker cannot display activity in real time. It can take a few hours for your data to appear.

For your Apple device

  1. Download or log in to the UPMC Health Plan mobile app.
  2. Follow this path: Your Settings > Health Data Sharing > Steps
  3. Accept the terms and conditions, then turn on Steps.

For manual entry on MyHealth Online

  1. Log in to my.pitt.edu and follow this path: My Resources > Human Resources > MyHealth Access > Better Health and Wellness > Resources for Healthier Living > Browse by Resource Type > Trackers > My Activity Tracker

There will be a link to My Activity Tracker on the Race Through Space homepage when it goes live on April 15.

If I’ve previously connected my device, do I need to connect it again?

You shouldn’t have to reconnect, but be sure to regularly sync your device to its app so UPMC receives your activity data.

Do I need my physician’s clearance to participate?

UPMC recommends that all participants seek the advice of their physician before participating in Race Through Space and at any time you plan to start or increase your physical activity.

Is text messaging available?

Yes! Sign up to receive text messages from UPMC by texting SPACE to 876247. Messages will begin after the campaign blasts off on May 1. Standard text message rates may apply.

Is there an incentive for participating?

Yes! Current participants will be entered into a monthly drawing to win one of three gift cards. After the campaign ends, there will be an additional gift card drawing for those who participated every month.
