Annual Staff Performance Appraisal Program: Fiscal Year 2022

As we approach the end of the fiscal year, this memo serves as a reminder that the deadline for the Annual Staff Performance Appraisal Program is June 30, 2022Review the Vice Chancellor of Human Resources' memo online.

New Features of the Appraisal Form

The Staff Performance Appraisal Form has been updated to be more streamlined and accessible for employees and their supervisors. Utilizing feedback from a staff-led working group, the new form reflects the following changes:

  • Separate forms for supervisors and staff eliminated and replaced by a single form for both
  • Performance standards condensed and simplified for supervisors and staff
  • Performance standard ratings for measuring employee performance updated

A new performance standard, Advancing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, has also been added to the form to support the Plan for Pitt. Created in partnership with the Office for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion, the new performance standard aims to further the University’s action of “creating an inclusive and equitable campus environment – one that welcomes, values and embraces the diverse perspectives of every member of our community.”

Employee Resources

To prepare for the annual review, we are providing procedures that support the staff performance appraisal program. Visit the Employee Resources web page for various resources including toolkits and appraisal forms which are available to aid managers and staff in preparing for and holding performance appraisal discussions.

This year, all areas across the University are required to conduct a performance appraisal with each employee. Please note that regional staff members should follow their regional HR office instructions, as they may differ from the Pittsburgh campus' process. Details regarding the performance appraisal process can be found on the OHR website.

Supporting the Shaping the Workplace Initiative

In conjunction with OHR's ongoing Shaping the Workplace initiative to identify the broader workplace environment that it wishes to shape and maintain, Responsibility Centers (RC) are being asked to confirm that all staff in their area have completed an annual performance appraisal by submitting a Qualtrics survey by July 31, 2022. OHR will review a sampling of staff performance appraisals to ensure minimum requirements are met as stated by University policy.

For further inquiries or assistance with the staff performance appraisal cycle, please contact the Office of Human Resources by submitting a request via our online form.
