The Career Transition Project is an integral part of the University's Office of Human Resources dedicated to veterans and individuals with disabilities, promoting a more diverse and inclusive workplace. The Project provides outreach services to the University community, including assisting with job searches, attending career fairs, and creating referral resources for those who have been hired at the University. The University's Career Transition Project was created and implemented in 2015 and works in partnership with the Blind and Vision Rehabilitation Services of Pittsburgh.

With a dedicated recruiter for veterans and individuals with disabilities, the Career Transition Project assists the University in identifying qualified job seekers who are ready for a welcoming work environment.
How We Do It
With outreach to hundreds of referral sources and partnerships comprised of agencies, schools, universities, and individuals, the Project actively recruits, hires, and trains qualified individuals and provides guidance to University departments.
Individuals with disABILITIES
The Individuals with disABILITIES program assists individuals in finding employment and providing reasonable accommodations to those in need at the University. New hires are also given the opportunity to receive additional support and guidance to help them transition into their new position and to provide individuals and their supervisor with strategies for continued success.
The Veterans program aims to attract and hire veterans at the University, with a focus on providing career preparation in returning to civilian life and the workforce. Working with local organizations and the University's Office of Veteran Services, the program provides career preparation workshops and resources, as well as one-on-one opportunities to discuss job interests, passion points, and skillset fit to help individuals succeed.
Job coaching provides individual training assistance for new employees with disabilities. Available at no cost to the employer, a job coach can be utilized for up to 90 days to assist a new hire transition into their new position, including:
- Working alongside new hires during their training period to reinforce the information provided by their supervisor
- Helping new employees quickly become independently productive
- Meeting with the supervisor to be sure that departmental needs are met and that job performance is satisfactory
- Creating a plan for the new hire and supervisor for the continued success in the position after the training period ends
Job coaching agencies insure their own employees, which pose no risk to the department or employer. A job coach can provide valuable techniques and strategies to help you and your new hire succeed.
