Staff (Non-Union): Prescription Drug Program

Effective July 1, 2026, administration of the pharmacy benefit included within the medical plan enrollment will transition from Express Scripts (ESI) to CVS Caremark. Copayments will remain unchanged and minimal adjustments to the formulary are anticipated. This change in pharmacy benefit administrator will provide access to enhanced features including thousands of in-network pharmacies.

While CVS Caremark will be the University’s new pharmacy benefit manager, individuals may choose to use a CVS pharmacy, or they may utilize one of the other participating pharmacies in the CVS Caremark network. To find participating pharmacies, please visit Caremark.com/PharmacyLocator.

Those enrolled in a University-sponsored medical plan through UPMC Health Plan will continue to have prescription drug coverage as they do now included in their medical election and premium. However, inquiries and questions on prescription drugs will need to be directed to CVS Caremark. Customer service can be reached by calling 833-296-1891. Members can also access plan details and prescription information by logging into Caremark.com, either by creating an account at Caremark.com or accessing the SSO portal on my.pitt.edu.

Note: All individuals enrolled in a University-sponsored medical plan will receive a new UPMC medical insurance ID card in late June, which will have the CVS Caremark information listed. Please ensure that you and any covered dependents use the new ID cards beginning July 1, 2026.

Prescription Drug Rider

The Prescription Drug Rider establishes the terms of coverage, member responsibilities, and policies and procedures to be followed in order for prescription drugs to be covered under your benefit plan. Please note that the prescription drug formulary is subject to change periodically based upon decisions by the UPMC Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee.

Members may obtain a 90-day supply of medications at any participating retail pharmacy. Three co-payments will apply, while only two co-payments are required when you obtain medications by mail order, at the Falk Clinic Pharmacy, or at the University Pharmacy.

CVS mail-order services — Long-term maintenance medications may be obtained through the CVS mail-order pharmacy. The University's prescription drug program allows you to receive 90-day supplies for most prescriptions while paying only two copayments.

Falk Clinic Pharmacy — Falk Pharmacy, the flagship pharmacy of UPMC, offers a variety of services, including:

Phone refills
Online refills
Free office delivery (Locations and Delivery Times [PDF])

University Pharmacy — The on-campus University Pharmacy provides first-class pharmacy services to Pitt faculty, staff, and students. Services include:
