Manage your University of Pittsburgh Retirement Savings Plan through the TIAA website:

 

Log In | Change Contribution Amount | Update your Beneficiary | View Account Balances | Enroll in Roth Option |

Log in to your TIAA account:

  1. Visit my.pitt.edu.
  2. Log in using your Pitt username and password.
  3. Click the My Resources tab, then select Human Resources under the drop-down menu.
  4. Click on Retirement Savings Plan Access.
  5. If you are no longer a University of Pittsburgh active Faculty or Staff member, you can access your account by going to www.tiaa-cref.org/pitt and click on the Log In button on the top right corner. You will need a TIAA user ID and password.

Change the amount of your contribution:

  1. Click on the Manage Elections button.
  2. Enter a percentage of each paycheck or select the maximum contribution, which is the maximum amount allowed under IRS regulations. You must also indicate an effective date of the change. If you do not change the effective date, the change will occur the first of the following month. Click the Payroll Schedules link to better understand when you will see the change reflected in your pay, future-dated effective dates, or if you are on a biweekly pay schedule.
  3. You can choose to split your contribution between pre-tax, Roth and after-tax. If you do not indicate otherwise,
  4. you will be defaulted to pre-tax only.
  5. If you are eligible for the Accelerated Benefit, you will have the option to check a box to Select the Accelerated Benefit.
  6. Once you are done, click on the Continue button.
  7. Review your election and how it is divided among the available University of Pittsburgh plans. When ready, click Confirm Elections to process your request.

Update your beneficiary:

Until you make a beneficiary election, your beneficiary will show as "Estate." To establish or update your beneficiary:

  1. Under the Manage My Portfolio tab, go to the Quick Links column and select Beneficiaries.
  2. Click on the Edit Account Designations button under the plan you are updating.
  3. You will be asked for your beneficiary's Social Security number, birth date, and address.
  4. Click on the Preview button. You will have the opportunity to apply the same beneficiary designation to your other plans by clicking on the Want to apply these designations to other account(s) button.
  5. Click on the box once you have read the terms and conditions and then click Submit. 

View your account balances:

  1. Account balances are shown on the Account Home page under Portfolio Summary in numerical and pie chart format.
  2. Select Investments under Portfolio Summary to view each account or fund in which you’re invested. You will see your total assets listed by retirement plan name. You can also view this information under the My Accounts section of the home page.

Enroll in the Roth Option:

  1. Under the Manage My Portfolio tab, choose Manage Contribution Amounts.
  2. Click on the Manage My Contributions button.
  3. Enter the percentage of each paycheck you wish to contribute and then click on Split this amount between Pre-tax, Roth and After-tax link. Enter the percentage of your paycheck that you wish to contribute on both a pre-tax and/ or Roth basis. Note that percentages indicated for pre-tax/Roth split must total the same percentage indicated above as the total per pay period. Click the Payroll Schedules link to better understand when you will see the change reflected in your pay, future-dated effective dates, or if you are on a biweekly pay schedule.
  4. Once you’re done, click on the Continue button.
  5. Review your election and how it is divided between pre-tax and Roth within the University of Pittsburgh plans. When ready, click Confirm Elections to process your request.

Enroll in Accelerated Benefit:

  1. Under the Manage My Portfolio tab, choose Manage Contribution Amounts.
  2. Click on the Manage My Contributions button.
  3. Click on the Manage Elections button.
  4. Enter the percentage of each paycheck you wish to contribute or select the maximum contribution. You must also indicate an effective date of the change. Click the Payroll Schedules link to better understand when you will see the change reflected in your pay, future-dated effective dates, or if you are on a biweekly pay schedule.
  5. If you are eligible for the Accelerated Benefit, you will have the option to check a box to Select the Accelerated Benefit.
  6. Once you’re done, click on the Continue button.
  7. Review your election and how it is divided within the University of Pittsburgh plans. You will notice that the Employer Match percentage reflects the increased percentage. When ready, click Confirm Elections to process your request.

Change the directions for how your future contributions will be invested:

  1. From the Account Home page, select the Manage My Portfolio tab.
  2. Under Retirement Plans & IRAs, choose Change Allocations of Contributions.
  3. Select a plan to create a new investment mix for future contributions.
  4. Choose the effective date for your change in section 1. Go to 2.
  5. Choose Your Funds and select the investment options to which you want to contribute.
  6. If you’re not sure which investments to select, go to the Don’t Know What to Pick? box and select Launch Tool to use the TIAA asset allocation calculator. This calculator will offer you information on how to create yourinvestment mix by asset class, based on your risk tolerance.
  7. Once you’re done, click the Preview Changes button.
  8. Review the information you provided and, when ready, click Submit to process your request.

Transfer monies between investment options:

  1. From the Account Home page, select the Manage My Portfolio tab.
  2. Under Retirement Plans & IRAs, choose Change Investments.
  3. Select the plan in which you would like to adjust your current money.
  4. Choose the effective date for your change in section 1.Go to 2. Choose the Source Fund (Transfer from) drop-down menu and pick the investment you want to transferfrom (you can select either a dollar amount, percentage or transfer all).
  5. Scroll down to 3. Choose the Destination Funds (Transfer to). Add the dollar amount or percentage that you want totransfer to this account or fund.
  6. Once you’re done, click the Preview Changes button.
  7. Review the information you provided and, when ready, click Submit to process your request.

  2. From the Advice & Guidance menu, select Retirement Advisor under Popular Tools & Calculators and followthe instructions.

Eliminate mailing time and paper clutter by signing up for eDelivery. You may select which communications you would like to receive electronically, from your account information (Quarterly Statements, Tax Reporting Forms, Transaction Confirmations) to required notifications and disclosures (Prospectuses, Annual Financial Reports, Annual Privacy Notice, Proxy Information, Public Disclosures).

  1. From the Account Home page
  2. Click on Profiles & Settings at the top of the page
  3. Click on Contact Information and eDelivery Preferences, and then Edit my eDelivery Preferences.
