Organization Development provides services and solutions designed to improve productivity and efficiency
for any School, College, or Department in the University community.
Products and Services Offered by OD include:

Organization Redesign:
Projects include analysis of organization structure, work distribution, work processes and work
relationships. Recommendations may include organizational restructure, job/work redesign and/or
streamlined job responsibilities and function.

Process Mapping:
All organizations have work processes. Mapping work processes provides a common framework for those
involved to enhance communication and understanding of work responsibilities. It enables the identification,
planning, and implementation of process and efficiency improvements for the organization.

Performance Management/Performance Impact Workplace:
The Organization Development group provides performance management consulting to a number of Colleges,
Schools and Departments to ensure their performance appraisal system is supporting the ever-increasing
need to achieve higher levels of performance and productivity. Services include competency identification,
leadership coaching and training, goal setting and performance management training. Also available is a
software-based performance management/performance appraisal -- Performance Impact Workplace. OD will help
organizations determine if this system meets their needs effectively, and will support the installation
and implementation of the system.

Strategic Planning:
The Organization Development group provides consulting to departments that would like to enhance their
strategic planning process through the development and implementation of a departmental vision and mission,
as well as strategic priorities, values and objectives.

Learning & Development Programs:
Organization Development works with Colleges, Schools and Departments to identify and address the learning
needs of their workforce. OD will work with the senior leader/leadership team to design a solution to meet
the unique needs of their department. Training may be part of a development program and could include Customer
Service, Leadership, and/or Workforce Development programs.

Faculty and Staff Development Program (including Human Resources Development Track):
The Office of Human Resources offers a variety of workshops to enhance the professional and personal development of
University of Pittsburgh faculty and staff. Organization Development oversees and administers the Faculty and Staff
Development Program (FSDP) which includes the Human Resource Development Track (HRDT). FSDP brochures announcing
workshops are available to the University community twice a year – Fall and Spring.
