This module will address the philosophy of compensation at the University of Pittsburgh, including both direct
pay and the concept of Total Rewards. Discussion will include how managers may utilize Total Rewards in salary
discussions with staff employees, a brief overview of the Staff Classification System, FLSA, University pay,
market pay and individual pay. After completing this session, participants will understand how jobs differ at
the University, how salary ranges are determined for different jobs and will gain confidence in addressing
difficult compensation issues with their staff employees.
