 Staff Handbook: Sick Time
Full-Time Employees:
- Regular full-time staff members accrue sick time at the rate of one paid sick day for each month worked, irrespective of length of service.
- If employment begins on or before the 15th of any month, you receive credit for a full month.
Part-Time Employees:
- Regular part-time staff members accrue a pro-rated share of the paid sick time
- Rate of accruals is determined by the percentage of effort worked
- Sick time is accrued during the provisional period
The maximum amount of sick days that may be accrued at any given time is 120 days. Temporary staff do not accrue any sick
time, regardless of the length of time employed by the University.
To be paid* for sick time upon termination from the University, you MUST meet the following criteria:
60 or more years of age with 10 or more years service at the University
OR
55 or more years of age with 25 or more years service at the University
*The sick time policy maximum payout of $2,500
How sick time payout, when applicable, is calculated:
- Annual salary ÷ 260 = Daily rate
- Daily rate ÷ 2 = One-half daily rate
- One-half daily rate × Unused number of sick days = Payment (Or $2,500, whichever is less.)
